80s Remix Project (The Goonies board game)

80s Remix Project
This project that I've been working on focuses with 80s property mixed up with different formats in my own IP (Intellectual Property) idea.
The chosen 80s property I went for is "The Goonies", a 1985 blockbuster classic adventure film in a board game themed. (This board game will be a prototype result of this project.) The reason I've decided to come up with a Goonies theme board game is because I wanted to think of a game that is more in physical form of gaming without the use of technology.

What you're about to see is the full production of how I created the Goonies board game.
For the start of my board game project, I began with some photoshop work which is making the playable character counters, cards and some tokens featuring treasure coins.
This image you're seeing shows an example of me making Sloth. What I did for this and all the other characters is I tried to find a good high quality image of the actual characters and then I copied and pasted them into photoshop. Then I cropped the image to the size that I want and removing the unwanted background from the original Image that appeared in the film.
Here you can see is all the playable characters. In the order from left to right of the character's names "Brand, Andy, Chunk, Data, Mikey, Mouth, Sloth and Stef".
After making the player counters, the next part is to make the coin tokens.
With the final result of my coin tokens, this didn't really take me too long to do for it's outcome. Despite having to find old fashion coins that would fit perfect to the theme of the board game that I'm making.
Basically how I made them is I played around adjusting the size of the actual images of those coins to the size I wanted, and then I made nine circles with a pale yellow colour inside so that way it wouldn't be too plain with the white background and also slightly easier to see.
The next stage of working in photoshop after making the character counters and the coin tokens is to make the playing cards.
On the internet, I tried to find a clear quality blank template of the playing cards. I managed to find one with 8 blank template which I thought is perfect to use.
After finding a blank playing cards template image, I had a thought about giving my cards an old pirate treasure map texture, to make it more old fashioned looking that fits suitable to the pirate theme that was mainly involved in the Goonies film.
Next, I started filling in the designs of booby trap chance-like cards (chance you would expect from "Monopoly" where you may get good rewards or bad.) Then clue cards, where it all involves with trivia questions that you have to answer and solve.
Here is the final result of the two sets of booby trap mystery cards on separate document. What you can see is it features video clip images from the original film that I found on the internet, also featuring mixes of good and bad rewards from each cards you pick up while playing the game.
(For a couple example of rewards, "You have fallen into one of One-Eyed Willy's booby trap, Go back 6 spaces". "Do the truffle shuffle!, Roll an even number with two dices to advance 3 spaces". "I smell ice cream. You have come across some ice cream during your adventure, advance 3 spaces".)
The final result of the two sets of clue cards. You can see that most of the clues you have to solve are small trivia quiz questions.
At the bottom of them cards, I have included numbers from 1-16 which this also goes for the answers card which I'll explain in a minute.
(Just to say a few example of questions, "Who Played Mikey in the film?". "What are the names of the Fratelli brothers?". "What is Sloth's famous line in the film?".)
Originally I nearly wasn't going to include a back cover for the cards. But then I though by doing that, it would make the outcome more easier to identify what card features are what, when you have to pick one up when playing through the game. So on my final thought, I decided to go ahead with it.
The first result of the back covers is for the booby trap cards.
The second result is for the clue cards.
The last result of the back cover designs are the answers for the clue cards.
At the bottom of each sets you can see on two of those images, I've included numbers from 1-16. (Like I have inserted in the clue cards.) Which both the clue and answers cards are all linked together.

Hopefully with all the back cover cards that I've made will make things more easier for the players to know what particular cards they need to pick up.
While I was in photoshop work production, I made an rules sheet to go along with the board game. So that way anyone who does play the board game will be able to understand how the game works.
The first screenshot image you can see on the left was an test result to see how I wanted it to look. With the first appearance of the rules sheet, you can see I included an image of an old scroll to give the feel of the environment that is appropriate to the theme of the board game that I'm making. Also there wasn't much information I included the first time, because I did have to play around with the font sizes trying to fit all the information on the scroll.
Then the second screenshot image on the right is almost the final outcome. The changes you can see is I did managed to add in more rules information. I've also changed the logo at the top with this time "The Goonies" logo text font and underneath it "The wonders of One-Eyed Willy's treasure" (with the same Goonies text font) as an additional title that I came up with.
Here is the final result of the rules sheet. The one thing I did added compare to the last two results you saw is I added the "Rules sheet" word underneath the board game logo. Because by adding the "Rules sheet", people will be able to know that this is the actual rules sheet so they'll be able to understand what they need to do when playing the game. This will also be laminated along with the other board game items that I made on photoshop.
After making all the character counters, coin tokens and the cards on photoshop, I then printed and cut them all out.
Here are all the printed images that I cut out.
After having the cards, characters and coins cut out, next was the lamination work.
During the start of the lamination work, I laid out all the cards, characters and coins ready. Then with all the cards I made, I placed the back covers on top of the certain front ones they're suppose to be together with. (So basically for example, the booby trap back covers I put on over the top of the back of the front booby trap cards.
Next, I started placing the two layered cards one at a time onto the laminated sheets. I was able to laminate six cards form one laminated sheets.
After I placed the cards onto the laminated sheet, I then started to insert the sheet into the laminator. I made 8 laminations in total with 6 for each sheets out of 48 cards that I made in photoshop.
While I did the cards, I also made a start on laminating the Goonies characters and the coin tokens.
Here is the final result of all the cards, Goonies characters and the coin tokens fully laminated.
After cutting out the laminated cards, characters and tokens, I started getting into making the actual board game itself.
First off, I did some hand-drawn work on making the wishing well and the bone organ.
You can see an example in this image that I've got my phone in front of me with an image of the original bone organ that was shown in the film that I copied out, but in my own design.
After doing them two, I did the sketch of One-Eyed Willy's pirate ship and a treasure chest to go along with the board game design.
In this three images is a before and after presentation of what it looks like with the layout planning and then the finish result.
With the first part, I made 75 spaces in total and laid them all out on two thick cards to show what it will look like before gluing them onto the board.
The next part, I cut out the wishing well and the bone organ and placed it into their positions on the board. I also made and cut out a blue coloured lagoon in the centre of the board which will be the marking point of the end of game.
Then the last part, I added the final finishing touch which was putting labels on the spaces, for example like "numbers, Fight the Fratelli's and booby trap hazard". Also as you can see I placed in a cut out drawing of One-Eyed Willy's ship and a treasure chest on the board (if you can see clearly, I also added some small jewellery stickers in the middle and at around the bottom of the chest to give it more details and appearance. I also did the same around the bottom of the wishing well as well.)
The final outcome of The Goonies board game.
This is the nearly finished outcome of my board game.
As you can see the board game is in a A3 folder, because I was having trouble trying to decide about laminating the actual board. But because the board is made on thick card, I thought to myself that the lamination paper may not make the board clearer and could bring in creases. So on my second thought, I decided that maybe having it in a folder may be easier and I can also put the two split board together.
Here is an example of how the game looks with all the board game items (Cards, Goonies characters and coin tokens) I've made placed on the board. You can also see next to the lagoon in the centre, I've included three dices which I brought off the internet to use for this board game.
(In this image, the laminated coins weren't actually cut out at that time I took the photo.)
That's my presentation of my 80s remix project with "The Goonies the Wonders of One-Eyed Willy's Treasure" board game.
Thanks for checking my work out.
